UntroD Real Tech Debt Fund, operated by Tokyo's UntroD Capital Japan, has provided a loan to Spectronix to support mass production of DUV picosecond laser oscillators for semiconductor packaging.

The size of the facility was not disclosed.

Spectronix, led by President and Chief Executive Yukihiko Nagaoka, develops, manufactures and sells ultrashort-pulse laser oscillators, including 266 nanometre DUV tools built on its proprietary LD-GS, or Laser Diode Gain Switching, method. The company said it developed a 266 nanometre DUV picosecond oscillator in 2020, later taking output as high as 50W with a 10,000-hour operating life, for microfabrication in semiconductor back-end processes including the drilling of fine VIA holes in package substrates.

Nagaoka said Spectronix would use the debt as bridge funding to advance mass-production technology development supported by a NEDO grant awarded in June 2025. He said that work, together with Series F equity, was intended to establish Spectronix as a next-generation key-device supplier for Japan's semiconductor industry. UntroD Fund Manager Ken Kimura described the loan as a financial bridge to the mass-production phase.

The company, founded in 2004 and based in Osaka, announced a ¥480 million Series F in January 2025, subscribed by JAFCO Group and DBJ Capital. That round followed a ¥510 million Series E in March 2024. Spectronix was selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's J-Startup programme in 2025.

The Spectronix loan is the second from UntroD Real Tech Debt Fund, after a facility for Eco-Pork announced on 3 August. UntroD Capital Japan, led by Representative Director Akihiko Nagata, completed a first close of the deep tech venture debt fund on 29 June. The fund's size was not disclosed. It is set to run for five years from June 2026, with an option to extend by two years, and is aimed at Japanese deep tech startups for which venture capital equity is a poor fit.

Partners include Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, the Regional Economy Vitalization Corporation of Japan, Nagano Credit Union, Nishi-Nippon City Bank and Hanno Shinkin Bank. UntroD, which launched its Real Tech Fund in 2015, said it now manages more than ¥48 billion across its Real Tech vehicles.
