Hannover-based seragy holding GmbH has raised €12 million in financing from Commerzbank, Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Niedersachsen and the State of Lower Saxony, or Land Niedersachsen.
The release described the financing as a combination of debt, equity and public funding. It did not break down the split between the financing types or state which party provided which component.
The company, formerly Prosperodes GmbH, plans to use the proceeds to expand laboratory and analysis capacity, grow its team in Hannover and broaden its European and international presence. It also intends to expand collaborations with pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners.
Founded in 2022, seragy develops quantitative biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases and other proteopathies, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and ALS, using its SeRAS platform. The operating subsidiary is seragy analytics GmbH.
The company is led by co-founders Dr Christiane Ritter and Dr Thorsten Lührs, alongside Arne Ungruh. Separately, seragy is one of five companies funded by the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s Seed Amplification Assay Innovation Program for work on a quantitative Parkinson’s assay.
Dr Thorsten Lührs, Managing Director Strategy and Innovation and co-founder, said: "This financing creates the basis for fundamentally changing how pathological protein aggregation is measured and understood."
Marc Hülsbruch, Chairman of the Management Board for Business Customers in Lower Saxony at Commerzbank, said: "seragy combines scientific excellence and a clear vision with a highly innovative technology platform."
