Innovate UK has provided a £3.6 million innovation loan to Strolll, the UK software-as-a-medical-device company that uses augmented reality for neurorehabilitation. Separately, the agency awarded a £700,000 Growth Catalyst Investor Partnerships grant. The two awards fund distinct projects and together total £4.3 million, or about €5 million as reported alongside the sterling figures.
Strolll has also secured a new investment round led by IW Capital, with participation from Cleveland Clinic and Future Planet Capital Regional. More than £1 million of that investor funding sits alongside the grant to support a bedside product. The size of the wider equity round beyond that disclosed figure was not broken out.
Founded in 2018 and led by Chief Executive and co-founder Jorgen Ellis, Strolll develops digital therapeutics delivered through AR glasses for people living with neurological disorders, including Parkinson’s disease, stroke and multiple sclerosis. Therapy can be delivered in clinic and at home. The company is headquartered in Stafford.
The innovation loan will accelerate StrolllAssessment, a platform that combines artificial intelligence with a biomechanics lab at the Stafford office to automate the clinical validation of digital neuromotor assessments. Strolll said running multiple validation studies in parallel could shorten a process that traditionally takes years. The £700,000 grant and the more than £1 million of investor funding will support StrolllAcute, a bedside-first AR rehabilitation system for acute, bed-bound patients designed to fit existing ward workflows.
Scott O’Brien, Chief Investment Officer at Innovate UK, said the agency is backing Strolll across two innovations because it has shown technical excellence and a credible route to commercial success. He said debt finance can de-risk later-stage innovation while grant funding sits alongside private capital.
The package follows a £10.35 million Series A in March 2025 led by IW Capital, reported at the time as about €12.2 million. IW Capital said that round would support sales and marketing, product expansion and entry into additional therapeutic areas.
Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation, offers innovation loans to UK SMEs for late-stage research and development projects with a clear path to commercialisation. Typical tickets under the programme run from £100,000 to £5 million. Terms for this facility were not disclosed beyond the loan label and size.
IW Capital is a London growth capital investor focused on UK SMEs. Future Planet Capital Regional, formerly Midven, invests in early-stage businesses and SMEs in the West Midlands.
