The European Investment Bank has agreed a €19 million venture debt facility for Reactive Technologies, a power-grid technology company developing real-time measurement tools for electricity networks.

The financing is backed by InvestEU and contributes to TechEU, the EIB Group initiative aimed at supporting European technology companies. The EIB described the instrument as venture debt, a long-term financing product for innovative, high-growth companies that is less dilutive than equity.

Reactive will use up to €7 million of the facility for research and development at its advanced R&D centre in Oulu, Finland. The remaining €12 million is earmarked for deployment of its technology in the European Union.

Reactive’s GridVerix platform provides real-time measurements of grid stability indicators, including inertia and voltage strength and stability. The company says the data can help grid operators manage higher levels of wind and solar generation, connect large power users such as data centres, reduce outage risk and lower curtailment costs.

“Europe needs electricity grids that can keep pace with the rapid growth of renewable energy,” said EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer. “Reactive Technologies gives grid operators a much clearer picture of what is happening across their networks in real time. Our financing will help bring this European technology to more markets, reduce the risk of power outages and support the secure integration of more clean power.”

Reactive Technologies was co-founded in the UK and Finland. It is headquartered in London and has its advanced R&D centre in Oulu.

The EIB facility follows Reactive’s £25 million Series D round announced in May 2024, led by M&G’s Catalyst with participation from BGF and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. That equity financing was intended to support global expansion, hiring and contracted projects. The company had previously announced a $15 million fundraise in August 2021 led by BGF, with Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Eaton participating.
