BBVA Spark has committed EUR 1.5bn in financing to high-growth technology companies since its launch in 2022, according to figures presented by Santiago Muguruza, global head of BBVA Spark.

Muguruza disclosed the figures at the opening of the fourth BBVA Spark Summit in Barcelona, which gathered more than 300 attendees from the technology and venture market. The platform provides specialised financial services ranging from day-to-day banking and operational support to structured financing, alongside capital call facilities for venture capital funds.

The latest total marks a step up from BBVA Spark’s earlier disclosure ahead of 4YFN and Mobile World Congress in March 2026, when it said it had committed close to EUR 1bn since launch and signed more than 30 deals over the preceding year across Europe and Latin America.

BBVA Spark operates with teams in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Spain and the UK. It has six offices across Barcelona, Madrid, London, Mexico City, Bogotá and Buenos Aires.

After building its position in Spain and Latin America, BBVA Spark is moving into a further phase of European expansion. As part of that push, the bank has appointed Sonya Iovieno as Head of Venture & Growth Lending for Europe. BBVA said Iovieno has more than 15 years’ experience working with high-growth companies in the European market.
